Celebrate Ireland at the Boise Co-op!

by Dylan Haas, Boise Co-op Riverdancing Leprechaun, with additional info from BoiseCoop.com

Say gang, what’s special about St. Patty’s Day? So many things, really, and most of them are food-related. Nonetheless, you can rest easy, Co-op shoppers, we will NOT be requiring full leprechaun gear to be worn by our employees this year – although pinching people who aren’t wearing green this March 17th will be a personal decision for both customer and employee alike!

(Editor's Note: If Dylan tries to pinch you, let us know and we'll ship him off to etiquette class. Again.)

Should you be so inclined to partake of a mild celebration on your own, our Meat Department has just welcomed in a big shipment of Snake River Farms Kobe Corned Beef Brisket! This flavorful corned beef connects the best of East and West, combining the taste and tradition of Kobe Beef, served over 200 years ago for the Emperor’s table in Japan, with the rich history of Irish corned beef. Snake River Farms Kobe Corned Beef is source certified, all-American Kobe beef, naturally produced without growth promoting hormones. Snake River Farms is committed to supporting the economic viability of America’s specialty farmers and ranchers. The company enhances producer returns by carefully developing and marketing unique products, like gourmet Kobe Corned Beef; to add value to otherwise underutilized cuts.

And what's Saint P's Day without cheese?? No, really, Irish cheeses are spectacular and not to be missed! Our Deli is offering some great deals for your shamrock celebration:
  • Authentic Kerrygold Irish Cheese: Dubliner $4.59 for 7 ounces; Aged Cheddar $5.99. for 7 oz
  • Tipperary Irish Cheddar $10.99 per pound
  • Boar’s Head Deli Meat: Pre-cooked Corned Beef $8.99 and Raw Brisket $6.99

The gang in Produce is ever ready with barrels of cabbage to ensure a traditional Irish meal is ready at the drop of a hat. And of course, we have delicious Idaho-gorwn potatoes, too!

And of course, one of the most popular pastimes of the holiday is imbibing all that great Irish brew. Here’s what the Co-op BeerGuys have going on:

Guinness Draught Cases ON SALE now thru St. Patrick’s Day!!! It’s a “More you buy, the cheaper per unit price!" kind of sale:
  • 24 pk - $26.99 (works out to $1.12/can)
  • 8 pks - $13.49 ($1.69/can)
  • 4 pks -$ 6.99 ($1.75/can)
  • Singles can - $1.89
Be aware: This offer is good while supplies last, and does not count toward other discounts or special orders.

We’ve also got a variety of other great Irish beers such as Harp, Smithwicks, Murphys, Kell’s Irish Lager… for more beer news, check out Matt Gelsthorpe’s recent article: Think Stout for St. Patrick’s Day.

And not to worry, our beermeisters will be quick on the draw should we come remotely close to running low on everybody’s favorite Irish themed libations (but it would take a convention of thirsty St. Patty’s day stalwarts descending upon our little shop all at once to deplete our wares)!

Like we always say at the Co-op: celebrate, but celebrate smart!

Enjoy!
